Wire frame

Hmmm, i have a wire sculpure of a giant sperm.... what now?

Living lamps

Just looking at animals with built in lights, to try and stir up some ideas...

Scribbles

During art history class last year, i learn that some artists like Miro came up with biomorphic shpes for their paintings buy continuously drawning the same shape over and over on a sheet of paper, and picking shapes out of the mess they ended up with. I thought i might have a go at this to try and drag myself out of this hole ive got my self into.

Here are the 2 shapes I came up with.

I then gave played around with making them into 3-d forms.

We I dont think its something I'll use, but it was an interesting exercise.

Here are my 8 catagories for designing a paper lamp.

Paper!

Ive just been having a little bit of a play that glorious substance we have come to know as paper.

Here are some photos of my adventures...
By scoring paper while it was wet, i was able to make it form a ribbed texture as it dryed. Also, check out the surface of the paper. When you wet it and dry it again, it gets a nice linty texture.

I tryed getting paper to set in a 3-d form be wetting it then squashing it over this bbq tong thingy. not terribly successful, but still interesting.

This is leave glued between to sheets of paper. I dont really notice it.....

...untill you put a light behind it.

This is my first atempt at making paper.

This is a photo of it lit front behind, with the camera flash on.

But check out what it looks like without the flash!

A Lantern is 10 feet of paper....

Ok, the Lamp/Lantern/Paper project... well... i've created SOMETHING... It didnt come out quite as planned, but then again my plan was fairly vague to begin with...

"Propose the ridiculous and take it seriously."
Hmmm, dont mind if i do.

I began by exploring ways in which a person could be INSIDE the lamp/paper, and playing round do a few sketches. I quite liked the aesthetic of this kinda thing...

So i decided to run with it. However, the brief called for my lamp/paper to be 7feet high...

I started looking at how a 7 foot structure could be worn on the arm,
I could just imagine some uppety aristocrats strolling around a ballroom sporting the latest fasion, the wearable lamp... see what lack of sleep can do to a man?

Anyway... this is what i came up with ...
